On the quandary of training transfer, when training for key skills, a common oversight is disregarding ‘decision-making’ and performance under stress.
This applies to many professions such as healthcare or aviation. We know that research finds simulations effective, and some companies use VR, but that’s not feasible in every organization or country given its cost. So, when decision making is important to carry out a task successfully (in critical and time-sensitive conditions), we should provide ample contextual real-world practice conditions and examples coupled with feedback.
